Matcha Powder Recipes Vegan and Gluten-Free | Svelte Plant Based Protein ShakesHave you tried matcha? Traditionally dissolved in hot water and drank during ceremonies, matcha powder has been used for centuries in Japanese culture.

A finely ground bright green powder, matcha is made from green tea leaves that have been grown in the shade. Drinking the powdered tea leaf (matcha) vs. steeping tea leaves in water provides more nutrients to the body. Compared to traditional green tea matcha has higher levels of energy boosting caffeine and the amino acid L-theanine, known to promote relaxation and stimulate brain function. The combination is thought to increase energy and focus without the jittery feelings typically associated with caffeine.

Additionally, matcha is an excellent source of antioxidants. It contains significant amounts of the catechin epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). Found primarily in tea, EGCG is studied for its possible benefits in preventing cancer, fighting infection, supporting weight loss, lowering bad cholesterol, and promoting healthy skin.

We love matcha green tea powder! Aside from its many health benefits, matcha is incredibly delicious and versatile. It also pairs perfectly with Svelte® French Vanilla protein shakes! Looking to incorporate matcha into your day? Here are some of our favorite matcha recipes:

While matcha may seem to be a miracle food, like everything, it is best to consume in moderation. Green tea plants can absorb lead from the soil and may contain trace amounts of the substance. For this reason, you should limit consumption to 1-2 teaspoon servings of matcha powder daily and consult a medical professional if pregnant, breastfeeding, or making dietary changes.
